SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

SAS Scholarship

Paul Harris brought together members of the business community in Chicago in 1905 with two main objectives of promoting the business interests and good fellowship of the members
But for Paul Harris, that wasn’t enough.  He wanted a club that would get involved in civic affairs and benefit the community.  Several members conspired to introduce a Third Object of Rotary: “the advancement of the best interests of Chicago.”   As Harris later remembered, I concluded that the most practical method of introducing community service would be to find a worthy cause and then induce members to work for it.”   As time went on and members started helping each other and those around them the motto “Service Above Self” was adopted by Rotary in 1950.
Today over 1.2 million Rotarians in almost 35,000 clubs in over 220 countries around the world follow this principal and strive every day to do good in their community or helping others at the International level.

The Rotary Club of Steubenville has provided the “Service Above Self” Scholarship for many years to students in our local schools.  Over the years the scholarship has evolved and made changes and again this year will be several new changes.  The application process has been streamlined and we will be awarding three (3) $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who are graduating in Jefferson County (OH).   The scholarships will be based on the students Service Above Self and what it means to them.
